Guide to taking shoe measurements

How to take measurements to calculate shoe size

The two most reliable ways to find out what shoe size a boy or girl should wear are as follows:

1st. Removing the template.

One way to choose the right shoe size for a child is to remove the insole from the shoe, whenever possible. Once removed, it should be measured against the child's foot. Ideally, it should be about one centimetre long and the widest point of the foot should coincide with the widest area of the insole or shoe.

2nd. Draw the outline of the foot.

In the case that the insole is not removable, one technique that can be considered is to draw the outline of the child's foot on a piece of cardboard or paper. To do this, you must hold the child's foot without resting it on the ground and draw the sole on the cardboard or paper. This should be done to prevent the soft areas from widening when supporting the weight vertically. After this, you would only have to insert the false insole into the shoe you want and see if it fits well.

The template drawn on cardboard or paper should be done on both feet, since the two feet are not the same. One may be wider than the other, longer or have a different toe. This can cause the right foot to feel uncomfortable and the left foot to feel very comfortable.
