Guide to taking measurements for a communion girl
With this short guide, we want to help you correctly measure a girl who will be wearing a communion dress.
All communion dresses are made in standard sizes, and for this reason, it is important that the measurements are taken correctly, so that we can order the dress in the standard size closest to the girl's measurements.
Then, during the first fitting, we'll make the necessary adjustments so our dressmakers can make the necessary alterations. This way, the dress will fit your daughter perfectly during the second fitting, and she'll look impeccable on her Communion day.
In some cases, some companies accept custom-made or personalized dresses, which incur a significant additional cost. Nevertheless, if you'd like your daughter's dress custom-made, don't hesitate to let us know; we'll contact the manufacturer and provide you with detailed information about the style options, delivery times, and prices, so you can make your decision.
Below, and although this is something we do in our boutique, we've provided a guide on how to take measurements for a communion dress, as well as an explanatory video, in case it's helpful.

1. CHEST : Place the tape measure around the girl's torso, leaving enough slack to fit one finger between the tape measure and the girl.
2. WAIST : We place the tape measure around the body, two fingers above the navel, leaving enough slack so that one finger fits between the tape measure and the girl.
3. TOTAL LENGTH : Measure from the base of the neck to the floor, always with the girl standing upright, facing forward, and with shoes on. To this measurement, add 2-4 centimeters for the petticoat (depending on the style) and 1 centimeter for every two months remaining until Communion.
4. BACK : we measure from shoulder to shoulder.
5. ARM : We measure the circumference of the arm and leave one finger in between.
6. SLEEVE LENGTH : We measure from the shoulder, bending the arm, passing through the elbow, and giving the desired sleeve length.
We also advise you to add 1 cm to your chest and waist measurements for every three months until your communion. This is never exact, but it is very approximate and will certainly help you.
We hope these instructions have been helpful to you.
