Guide to taking measurements for a child in communion
With this guide, we want to help you correctly measure a child who will be wearing a First Communion suit, admiral suit, or sailor suit.
All communion suits are made in standard sizes, and for this reason, it's important that the measurements are taken correctly, so we can order them in the closest standard size to the child's measurements.
Then, during the first fitting, we'll make the necessary adjustments so our dressmakers can make the necessary alterations. This way, the suit fits your child perfectly during the second fitting, and they look impeccable on their Communion day.
In some cases, some companies accept custom-made or personalized suits, which incur a significant additional cost. Nevertheless, if you'd like your child's suit custom-made, don't hesitate to let us know; we'll contact the manufacturer and provide you with detailed information about the model options, delivery times, and prices, so you can make your decision.
Below, and although this is something we do in our boutique, we've provided a guide on how to correctly take measurements for a communion suit, as well as an explanatory video, in case you find it helpful.

BACK : Measure from shoulder to shoulder.
CHEST CONTOUR : Place the tape measure around the child's torso, under the armpits, leaving enough room for one finger to fit between the tape measure and the child. You should add one (1) centimeter to this measurement for every three (3) months remaining until the communion or photos.
WAIST : Place the tape measure around the body two fingers above the navel, leaving enough room for one finger to fit between the tape measure and the child. You should add one (1) centimeter to this measurement for every three (3) months remaining until the communion or photos.
HIP : Place the tape measure around the child's hip, leaving enough room to fit one finger between the tape measure and the child. Add one (1) centimeter to this measurement for every three (3) months remaining until the communion or photos.
SLEEVE LENGTH : Measure from the end of the shoulder to the wrist on the outside of the arm.
TROUSERS LENGTH : Measure from the waist to the top of the shoe heel, with the shoe you are going to wear on.
We also advise you to add 1 cm to your chest and waist measurements for every three months remaining until your Communion, and to add 1 cm to your length for every two months remaining until your Communion. Although this is never exact, it is very approximate and will certainly help you.
We hope these instructions have been helpful to you.
